Did someone say bubble tea? ♡
I don’t know about you, but I am always up for bubble tea!
As I was catching up with my friends, Ayeesha and Raisa, Ayeesha casually mentioned how good bubble tea is and went on about her love for the drink…hearing her, I was like YES GIRL!!! (I was excited and happy to know that someone else also shared my love for bubble tea). And just like that – the three of us decided that we had to get ourselves bubble tea! Now, the go to place for many regular bubble tea drinkers in Toronto (yes – that is a thing) is Chatime, but my friends and I wanted to try a new place and that is exactly we did.
So we found ourselves @Boba Boy
Boba Boy opened recently in the Midland location (3250 Midland Ave, Scarborough). While I had not gone there before or heard much about it, my friends and I had seen pictures of their cute bottles pop up on Instagram. So, we thought we might as well go and check it out and snap some photos of the drinks ourselves too. Unlike many bubble tea places, here you can actually get yourself bubble tea in a bottle and you can keep the bottle too! Neat concept right?
In this post, we’ll explore if this place is worth the hype!
What we got: For it’s ‘Grand Opening’ promotion, there was a good offer that we could not miss out on. For $2.99 you could get a deluxe milk tea! Ayeesha and I thought we’d try this and see how it is. As you can see from the picture below, this drink came with grass jelly and litchi jelly.
Typically, when I get bubble tea – I always get tapioca pearls on my drink. This was my first time trying grass jelly and litchi jelly on my bubble tea instead of having tapioca pearls. Did I like it? To be honest, I liked the litchi jelly however, the grass jelly was not my favourite. I’d say going with tapioca pears is probably the safe option because there is no guarantee as to whether or not you will end up liking the grass jelly. My friends were not a huge fan of it either! Over all, the drink was decent. This was not the best bubble tea I have had. I would still get taro bubble tea over this but it was still great to try something new, that’s for sure!
While that’s the drink Ayeesha and I got, Raisa on the other hand was craving the taste of watermelon. Luckily the store had watermelon juice! For her juice, she added litchi jelly. No grass jelly? Good choice! The juice tasted fresh and it satisfied Raisa’s craving for watermelon but according to her, it was nothing too special.
The drinks took around 20 minutes for us to get (the service was slow, despite the store not being busy at the time we visited) nonetheless, the staff were super friendly, so while we were waiting for our drinks, we had a nice chat with the staff there and we took some pictures as well.
- Sign up for the ‘vicinity rewards card’ – you can do so when you are about to pay. By signing up for this card, you can earn a point for every drink you purchase. How the points system works: 3 points = FREE toping, 8 points = FREE small drink and finally, 12 points = FREE large drink!
- Note: if you want to get bubble tea in a bottle, keep in mind that you will have to pay extra!
- You can return the bottle in your next visit to the store and upon doing so, you will get $1 off your drink.
- Or… you can keep the cute bottle and reuse it 😉 – whatever you do, don’t forget to snap pictures of your drink and enjoy it!
Boba Boy Instagram: @bobaboytoronto
Store Rating: ★★★☆☆
Pros: cute bottles and friendly staff
Cons: Slow service , decent drinks and small seating area
Would I recommend Boba Boy? If you are craving bubble tea and you happen to be in the area, then do check out this newly opened store. Otherwise, it’s just the hype…you know, for their ‘instagramable bottles’. The drinks itself are decent, nothing extraordinary and so I would not say that this is one of those places for which you would need to go out of your way to try something from their menu.
Thanks for reading. I will be posting regularly on this blog from now on (yay)! I can’t wait to share my experiences with you and hear from you.
Where is your go to place for bubble tea and what is your favourite bubble tea flavour?
