Nagarkot: The Perfect Getaway

Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal is full of history, art and culture – no wonder it is on everyone’s travel itinerary when visiting Nepal! However, if you want to be with nature some more and take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city life, this post is for you. Only 32KM Northeast of the capital city, Nagarkot is the perfect getaway you need to visit!

Colorful Pop Tutorial Youtube Channel Art.jpgThe scenery in Nagarkot is simply refreshing! You see, this was my first time visiting Nagarkot and boy was I in awe by the beauty that surrounded me. I kept finding myself admiring the scenic view before me. img_4566-e1527295988432.jpg

My car ride from Kathmandu to Nagarkot lasted around 2 hours. Luckily I did not get stuck in traffic plus the weather was great so I did not face much delay on the way to Nagarkot. Getting stuck in traffic would not be fun, especially on a hot summers day. I mean…let’s be real here, when is it ever fun?

 Tea time ☕️

Upon reaching Nagarkot, I was excited to check out this serene place from a viewpoint area. But before I made my way to the viewpoint area, I saw a small, local tea store AND I HAD TO stop for a hot cup of Nepali masala tea! Have you ever tried Nepali tea? It is SO good! Tea is an important part of Nepali culture. In my family we drink tea every day – some family members even drink tea 2-3x in a day and that is in fact not uncommon in most Nepali households.

After stopping for tea, I finally made my way to the viewpoint area. Seeing Nagarkot from the tower at the viewpoint area was something else – I mean, just look at the greenery! T’was beautiful.

Where to stay?

  1. Club Himalaya

Club Himalaya is a resort that is a favourite among many travellers who visit Nagarkot. I had heard a lot about this resort prior to visiting Nagarkot so I knew I had to check it out. IMG_4765

IMG_4997IMG_5550.jpgIMG_4970I found my stay in the resort to be comfortable and the service was quite great too. The staff were friendly and kind plus the resort itself was beautiful. My personal favourite? The view that you can see from the resort – it was absolutely gorgeous! I felt so calm as I sat down, sipped my drink and looked outside. It was super relaxing! You can find out more about this hotel here.

2. Hotel Mystic Mountain

Hotel Mystic Mountain is the newest addition to the hotels and resorts in Nagarkot. This new hotel has quickly become a hot spot for locals and tourists alike. Additionally, it is thought to be one of the most instagramable places in Nagarkot. Unfortunately, when I visited Nagarkot, the hotel was still under construction so I was not able to have the mystic experience but I do hope to check out this place in the future. The pictures I have added here are taken from their Instagram. Feel free to check it out and support them! This hotel has great reviews so far and if you take a quick look at their website, you will see why that may be the case after all this place looks very attractive!

~ If you are visiting Kathmandu, I highly recommend that you add Nagarkot to your itinerary.

If not a weekend getaway, consider staying overnight in Nagarkot for one night if your schedule allows. If you cannot fit that into your schedule, I’d say take a drive to Nagarkot and spend the day there. Oh and definitely try the Nepali masala tea at the local tea shop which you can find once you enter Nagarkot.
